a biographical installation

Artist Statement

In the spring of 2022, before I graduated with my BFA, I sought out to make a 4-piece installation work that focused on the idea of moving through my own life with the illustration of a dirt road like that I grew up driving down on the way to my childhood home.

Each 8-foot panel is comprised of patches of fabric to represent the way memories exist in fragments. The pink/rusty color was made from dying the linen and cotton fabric with homemade dye from madder root. Once the panels were assembled, free hand embroidery outlines pictures collected from the day I was born up to the day I left home to go to college.

The panels were then installed hanging from the ceiling encouraging the viewer to walk through the panels as they looked at the patches and embroidery as if walking through my own memories with me.
